Project Lead: Alon Meron

Number of participants: 15

Duration: 5 days

Project Outline:

The workshop explores pedagogies within practice, Exploring the impact of visible pedagogy on the creative process as part of a studio practice. More specifically, Cognitive Apprenticeship as a threshold concept. The applicable element of the workshop is in the act of ‘educated copying’ that feeds directly into one’s creative process and practice.

The challenge is two faced: participating students will be asked to articulate and make accessible various aspects of their work process so that it is legible to other participants. They will also be working towards incorporating elements of other participants’ work into their own.
The process is inspired by the pedagogic theory of Cognitive Apprenticeship and the practice of apprenticeship as it is manifested in Design methodologies, Design education and studio practice.
Participating students are required to act as maters to their own process and tutors to other participants. At the same time they are actively appropriating elements of other’s work, reshaping their practice in the act.

This is an accelerated process made possible through letting go the binary perceptions of ownership, originality and rights (and wrongs). Making the process transparent, and legitimising the act of copying acts as catalyst for fast paced creation and reflection.
The work produced will be reviewed and discussed daily, with particular attention to the developing and transferable aspects of the work and the learning experience as perceived by the students.
