Hana draws and paints landscapes and portraits, both from life and from her own photographs. She is interested in capturing people or places that are usually overlooked, often focusing on the ‘lesser aspect’ of a place or scene.

As a keen musician Hana has combined her interest in music with painting, harnessing the vibrations created through different audio recordings. Hana uses a bass amplifier, resting a circular basin containing paper stuck to the inside on top of the amp’s speaker. Acrylic inks are poured into the centre of the paper and when the sound recordings are played through the amp the vibrations cause the paint to move, creating a unique ‘sound painting’ for each recording.

Hana mostly uses audio from her phone, for example recordings of herself and friends rehearsing for gigs which include bits of conversation and laughter, as well as recordings taken from live performances she was involved in. She has also used recordings taken while studying music at University, such as her composition ‘Miriam’ for music box and a suite of folk songs recorded for her final performance CD.
