Grand Challenge Support 2020/21 and 2021/22

We are supporting the Grand Challenge at the School of Design with organizing VR Workshops in 2020/21 and 2021/22 and supporting the NEMO project with Map Visualization approaches. The Grand Challenge is probably the largest post-graduate student-driven design project in the world, bringing together students from different programs of the School of Design, such as Fashion, Product Design, Textiles, and of course Innovation Design Engineering.

Emotional Design + Bio materials

Biophilic Design can be described as a need to be associated with nature within the built environment. Nature has healing properties that could bring positive effects on human emotional, behaviour, psychological, and physiological state.
These artworks apply the elements of Biophilic Design with the usages of natural colours and living organisms; mainly succulents and air plants as it easy to maintain and do not need to be water every day.
The embedded plants can also help to purify the air and provide oxygen in small areas within the built environment. It is an alternative way of incorporating nature into the urban environment and encouraging people to get close to nature.
The original aims of the project are to understand and investigate the emotional responses of potential users toward biological materials which proposed to be embedded in everyday design. This study is part of an ongoing larger research project on emotional design and perception towards biological materials in everyday products (Sayuti and Ahmed-Kristensen, 2020). Therefore, related works are in progress on, e.g., identification of purposes, ownership regarding biological products as well as knowledge on bio-related genres (Sayuti, Sommer Ahmed-Kristensen, 2020 and 2021.
