Peat & Peatlands

A Peat-figure made of clay stands with arms raised on a wooden bridge surrounded by healthy peatlands consisting of water/shrubs

About

Our project is a short film that incorporates elements of stop-motion animation using a figure made of sustainably sourced clay and sedum which represents a “Peat-person” that tells the story of peat formation, its histories and brings about awareness of its advantages. The main question this seeks to ask is – ‘How can an increased understanding of the efficiency of Peatlands as carbon sequesters increase our knowledge of other carbon rich natural and perhaps future man-made ecosystems and highlight the need to raise awareness, prevent damage and destruction and identify the best custodians for education and preservation?’
